    Keep it updated

    Install operating system updates promptly — they fix security vulnerabilities and bugs. Windows: Settings > Update & Security. Mac: System Settings > General > Software Update. Enable automatic updates.

    Restart weekly

    Restart your computer at least once a week. This clears memory, applies pending updates, and resolves many minor issues. Don't just close the lid — actually restart or shut down.

    Clean up storage monthly

    Windows: Settings > System > Storage > Temporary Files. Mac: About This Mac > Storage > Manage. Delete temporary files, empty the Trash/Recycle Bin, and remove programs you no longer use.

    Run antivirus scans

    Windows Defender runs automatically (it's good enough for most people). Run a full scan monthly: Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Scan Options > Full Scan. Mac: malware is less common but consider Malwarebytes (free).
