Check that iCloud Drive is on

    ~26s
On iPhone or iPad: go to Settings → tap your name → iCloud → turn on "iCloud Drive." On Mac: go to System Settings → click your name → iCloud → turn on "iCloud Drive." On Windows: download iCloud for Windows from microsoft.com/store and sign in with your Apple ID.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Also enable "Desktop & Documents Folders" on Mac (in the iCloud Drive options) to automatically save everything from your Mac desktop and Documents folder to iCloud.

    2

Access iCloud Drive on iPhone or iPad

    ~15s
Open the Files app (the blue folder icon on your home screen). Tap "Browse" at the bottom → tap "iCloud Drive" under Locations. You will see folders for your apps and any files you have saved. Tap any file to open it.
    3

Save a file to iCloud Drive

    ~16s
When saving a document from any app (Pages, Word, Notes export, etc.), tap "Save" or "Share" → "Save to Files" → choose "iCloud Drive" as the location → select or create a folder → tap Save. The file is now accessible on all your devices.
    4

    Share a file with someone

    ~28s
In the Files app, press and hold a file → tap "Share." Choose "Add People" to share directly with another iCloud user — they get a link and can view or edit the file. Or tap "Copy Link" to paste the link into a message or email. Set whether the recipient can view only or make edits.

    Quick Tip

For sharing with someone who uses Windows or Android, send them the link and they can open it at icloud.com in any web browser — no Apple device needed.

    5

Check your storage and manage space

    ~15s
Go to Settings → tap your name → iCloud → "Manage Account Storage." This shows what is using the most space. Tap any category to delete items. If you are running low, tap "Upgrade to iCloud+" to increase your storage plan.

iCloud Drive is Apple's cloud file storage service — think of it as a virtual filing cabinet that is accessible from every Apple device signed in with your Apple ID. Files you save to iCloud Drive are available on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac automatically. You can also access them on a Windows PC at icloud.com.

Every Apple ID includes 5 GB of free iCloud storage. This space is shared between iCloud Drive files, iCloud Photos backups, and iPhone device backups. Many people run out quickly. You can upgrade to 50 GB for $0.99/month, 200 GB for $2.99/month, or 2 TB for $9.99/month.

What iCloud Drive is good for:

    - Storing documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, and presentations - Accessing a file you saved on your iPhone when you are at your Mac - Sharing files with family members through iCloud Family Sharing - Keeping Desktop and Documents folders backed up from your Mac automatically

What it is not good for:

    - Storing extremely large video libraries (iCloud Photos is better for that) - Sharing files with people who use Windows or Android by default (they need icloud.com or a Windows app)

Files stored in iCloud Drive sync automatically across devices — any change you make on one device appears on all others within seconds if you have an internet connection.
