Senior Planet is a nonprofit program run by AARP that provides free technology education specifically for adults 60 and older. They offer hundreds of free online classes covering everything from smartphone basics to Zoom video calls, social media, email management, online banking safety, and even coding and creative writing with AI.
Classes are offered as live Zoom sessions, on-demand video recordings, and in-person at Senior Planet community centers in select cities. The online classes are available nationwide — you do not need to live near a Senior Planet location to participate.
The teaching style is specifically adapted for seniors: patient, non-technical, and hands-on. Instructors understand that many participants are newer to technology and welcome basic questions without judgment. Classes are typically 45-60 minutes and are offered at various times throughout the week.
The technology helpline is one of Senior Planet's most valued offerings: a free phone service (888-713-3495, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM Eastern) where a real person answers your technology questions in plain English. You do not need to be enrolled in a class to call — the helpline is open to anyone 60 or older.
Registering for Senior Planet is free. You create an account at seniorplanet.org, browse the class calendar, and register for any class you are interested in. You receive a reminder email before each class with the Zoom link to join.
In-person Senior Planet Centers are located in New York City, Los Angeles, Denver, and other cities — they offer computer labs, drop-in help hours, and social events in addition to classes.
