How to Share Your Wi-Fi Password With a Guest

Share your home Wi-Fi with visitors instantly — no need to read out a long password. Works on iPhone and Android.

    1

Share Wi-Fi from iPhone to iPhone (the easy way)

    ~31s
Make sure both phones have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on and are close together. Ask your guest to go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap your network name. On your iPhone, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to share the password. Tap "Share Password." Your guest's phone will connect automatically — no typing required.

    Quick Tip

This iPhone-to-iPhone sharing only works if the guest's Apple ID email is saved in your Contacts, and vice versa. If you don't see the pop-up, make sure both people's contact info is in each other's phones.

    2

Share Wi-Fi using a QR code (works on any phone)

    ~25s
On iPhone: go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the (i) next to your network name. Tap "Share" and a QR code will appear. Your guest can point their phone camera at it to connect instantly. On Android: go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi, tap your network, then tap the QR code icon to display a shareable code.

    3

Find and share your Wi-Fi password manually

    ~30s
If the automatic methods don't work, you can look up your password. On iPhone (iOS 16 or later, including iOS 18): go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the (i) next to your network, then tap "Password." On Android (Android 10 and later): go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi, tap your network, then tap the share icon — your password will appear on screen.

    Warning

Your Wi-Fi password gives guests full access to your home network. Change it after guests leave if security is a concern — especially for short-term rentals.

Set up a guest network for visitors

    ~27s
Most home routers let you create a separate "guest network" — a second Wi-Fi that visitors can use without accessing your main network (and the devices on it). Log in to your router's settings page and look for "Guest Network." Your internet provider's website can walk you through the steps for your specific router.

    Quick Tip

A guest network is ideal if you have smart home devices, a security camera, or a home office computer that you want to keep separate from visitor traffic.
