How to Turn Off Location Tracking on iPhone

Stop apps and Apple from collecting your location history on your iPhone to keep your movements private.

    1

    Open the Settings app

    ~15s
Tap the gray gear icon on your home screen. This is the Settings app.
    2

    Go to Privacy & Security

    ~15s
Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security. Then tap Location Services at the top of the list.
    3

    Turn off location history tracking

    ~15s
Scroll to the bottom and tap System Services. Tap Significant Locations, enter your passcode, and turn off the switch. This stops your iPhone from keeping a log of places you visit.
    4

Review which apps can see your location

    ~15s
Go back to the main Location Services page. Tap each app in the list and pick "Never" for apps that do not need your location — like flashlights, games, or calculators.
    5

Turn off Location Services completely (optional)

    ~15s
If you want full privacy, go back to the top of the Location Services page and flip the main switch off. Be aware that Maps, Weather, and Find My will stop working until you turn it back on.

Your iPhone records where you go all day, every day. Apple uses this for features like suggesting traffic routes home, but you can turn it off without losing Maps or weather.

You can also control which specific apps get to see your location. This is a good idea because many apps ask for location permission even when they do not really need it.
