How to Make Text Bigger in Your Browser

Increase the text and page size in your browser with a simple keyboard shortcut — no settings menus or special software needed.

    1

Zoom in using the keyboard shortcut

    ~19s
On a Windows or Linux computer, hold the Ctrl key and press the + (plus) key. On a Mac, hold the Command key (the one with the apple or clover symbol) and press +. Each press zooms the page in a bit more — you can press it several times to reach your preferred size.
    2

    Zoom back out or reset

    ~15s
Hold Ctrl (or Command on Mac) and press the minus key (-) to zoom out. Hold Ctrl (or Command) and press 0 (zero) to reset the page to its default 100% zoom level.
    3

Use the browser menu to zoom

    ~15s
In Chrome, click the three vertical dots in the upper right. You will see a "Zoom" control with + and – buttons near the top of the menu — click these to adjust the zoom level for the current tab.
    4

Set a permanent zoom level in Chrome

    ~17s
To make all websites start at a larger size, open Chrome, click the three dots > Settings. In the search bar, type "font size." Under "Appearance," change the font size to "Large" or "Very Large." You can also change the "Page zoom" setting to 125% or 150%.
    5

Zoom on a phone or tablet

    ~16s
On a touchscreen phone or tablet, place two fingers on the screen and spread them apart (pinch outward) to zoom into any webpage. Pinch inward to zoom back out. Double-tapping on a section of text will also zoom into that area on many sites.

Every web browser has a built-in zoom feature that makes the entire web page — text, images, and buttons — larger or smaller. If text on websites feels too small to read comfortably, zooming in is the fastest fix. The keyboard shortcut works in Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari on a computer: hold the Ctrl key (or Command key on a Mac) and press the plus sign (+) to zoom in. Press it several times to zoom in more. Press Ctrl+minus (-) to zoom back out. Press Ctrl+0 (zero) to return to normal size.

On a phone or tablet, you can pinch two fingers together on the screen and spread them apart to zoom into any webpage — the same pinch-to-zoom gesture used for photos.

If you find yourself zooming in on every website you visit, you can set a permanent default zoom level in your browser settings so all pages start at the larger size you prefer.
