    1

    Download the official VA app

    ~15s
Search "VA: Health and Benefits" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). The publisher is "US Department of Veterans Affairs." Install the free app. Be sure you have the official government app — look for the VA seal logo.
    2

Sign in with your VA credentials

    ~22s
The app uses the same sign-in options as va.gov: Login.gov, ID.me, or My HealtheVet. Tap your preferred sign-in method and enter your credentials. If you have a My HealtheVet account (the patient portal many veterans use), tap "My HealtheVet" to sign in with those credentials.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If you use va.gov already, your same username and password work in the app. No separate registration needed.

    3

    Refill a prescription

    ~22s
Tap "Health" → "Prescriptions." You will see a list of your current VA prescriptions. Tap any prescription and select "Refill Prescription" if it is eligible for refill. Confirm your mailing address. Your refill is submitted immediately. You can track the shipment status in the same screen.

    Quick Tip

The app only shows prescriptions filled through the VA pharmacy. Prescriptions you fill at an outside pharmacy are not shown here.

    4

    Check a claim status

    ~15s
Tap "Benefits" → "Disability Rating" to see your current combined disability rating. Tap "Claims" to see the status of any open claims or appeals. Each claim shows its current step in the process and an estimated decision date if available.
    5

    Message your care team

    ~24s
Tap "Health" → "Messages." This is a secure messaging system to communicate with your VA care team — similar to email but encrypted and private. You can ask non-urgent questions, request prescription changes, report a symptom, or ask for a referral. Your care team typically responds within 1–3 business days.

    Warning

Secure messaging is for non-urgent questions only. For urgent medical concerns, call your VA facility or 911. Do not use messaging for emergencies.

The VA: Health and Benefits app is the official mobile app of the US Department of Veterans Affairs. It gives veterans a convenient way to manage VA healthcare and benefits from their phone — without calling the VA or visiting in person for many common tasks.

Here is what you can do in the app:

    Healthcare

: View upcoming VA appointments, check in to your appointment from your phone (at participating facilities), refill prescriptions, view your health records and test results, and send secure messages to your care team.

    Claims & Benefits

: Check the status of disability claims, appeals, and decision reviews. Download VA letters like the Benefit Summary Letter (used for proving disability status). Check your service history.

    Payments

: View past and upcoming VA payments. Update your direct deposit information.

    Military Records

: View your discharge papers (DD-214), service history, and related documents.

The app requires you to sign in with Login.gov, ID.me, or My HealtheVet credentials — the same login you use on va.gov. If you do not have one of these accounts, the app can help you create one.

The app is free on iPhone and Android from the official VA. It is one of the best government apps available — and one of the most useful for the millions of veterans using VA services.
