    Permanently close accounts you do not use anymore. Step-by-step links — and what to back up first.

    Social

    What happens: Permanent delete after a 30-day grace period. Your photos, posts, friend list — gone. Messenger conversations stay with the other person but with no name.

    Steps

    1. 1.Settings & Privacy → Settings → "Your Facebook information".
    2. 2."Deactivation and deletion" → "Delete account".
    3. 3.Enter your password and confirm.
    4. 4.Wait 30 days without logging in. Logging in cancels the deletion.
    Back up first: Download your data first: Settings → "Your Facebook information" → "Download your information". Saves all your photos and posts before they are gone.

    Instagram

    Social

    What happens: 30 days to change your mind. After that, photos, followers, comments — all gone. Your username becomes available for someone else.

    Steps

    1. 1.Open instagram.com on a computer (cannot delete from the app).
    2. 2.instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent → log in.
    3. 3.Pick a reason → enter password.
    4. 4.Click "Permanently delete my account".

    X / Twitter

    Social

    What happens: Account deactivates immediately. Permanent delete after 30 days. Tweets disappear from search; archives might persist on archive.org.

    Steps

    1. 1.Settings and Support → Settings and privacy → "Your account".
    2. 2.Tap "Deactivate account".
    3. 3.Confirm. Account is gone in 30 days unless you log back in.

    TikTok

    Social

    What happens: 30-day grace period. Videos, comments, followers, drafts — deleted. Your username is held for 30 days then released.

    Steps

    1. 1.Profile → Settings → Manage account → Delete account.
    2. 2.Enter your password or get a code by phone/email.
    3. 3.Confirm.

    Social

    What happens: Account closed after 14 days; some search engines may still show old data for months. Recommendations and endorsements you wrote stay on others' profiles unless they delete them.

    Steps

    1. 1.linkedin.com → "Me" → Settings & Privacy → Account preferences → Account management → Close account.
    2. 2.Pick a reason → enter password.
    3. 3.Confirm.

    What happens: Account deactivated immediately. Permanently deleted after 30 days. All snaps, friends, memories — gone.

    Steps

    1. 1.accounts.snapchat.com → log in → "Delete My Account".
    2. 2.Enter password and confirm.

    Amazon

    Shopping

    What happens: Closes account, removes order history, reviews, lists, Kindle library. CANNOT be undone — and existing Kindle e-books become unreadable.

    Steps

    1. 1.amazon.com → "Help" → "Cancel my account or Subscriptions".
    2. 2.Pick "Permanently delete my account and data".
    3. 3.Pick a reason → confirm.
    Back up first: Download Kindle e-books to a Kindle device or cloud reader BEFORE deleting — once the account is gone, the books cannot be re-downloaded.

    eBay

    Shopping

    What happens: Closes account but keeps record of past transactions for legal reasons. Feedback you left for others stays. Active listings get cancelled.

    Steps

    1. 1.eBay Help → "Closing your account".
    2. 2.Sign in → fill out the form → submit.
    3. 3.eBay reviews and confirms within 7 days.

    Netflix

    Streaming

    What happens: Account closes immediately. Watch history kept for 10 months in case you come back. Profiles and recommendations gone.

    Steps

    1. 1.netflix.com → Account → "Cancel Membership".
    2. 2.Confirm.

    Spotify

    Streaming

    What happens: Free or paid — both can be closed. Playlists you made are gone. People who follow your playlists lose them too.

    Steps

    1. 1.support.spotify.com → "Close account".
    2. 2.Sign in and follow the prompts.
    3. 3.Email confirmation seals it.

    Google

    Big platform

    What happens: Deletes Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, Google Photos, Calendar, Contacts — everything tied to that one Google account. Your @gmail.com address can never be re-used by anyone.

    Steps

    1. 1.myaccount.google.com → Data & Privacy → "Delete your Google Account".
    2. 2.Read what gets deleted (it is a long list).
    3. 3.Type your email to confirm.
    Back up first: Use Google Takeout (takeout.google.com) FIRST to download a zip of all your photos, emails, and contacts. Save it somewhere safe before deleting.

    Apple ID

    Big platform

    What happens: Deletes everything iCloud — photos, contacts, notes. Past App Store and iTunes purchases become unreachable. iMessage stops working from your phone number.

    Steps

    1. 1.privacy.apple.com → "Request to delete your account".
    2. 2.Sign in. Pick a reason.
    3. 3.Apple emails confirmation. Process takes up to 7 days.
    Back up first: BACK UP your iPhone first via iCloud or to a computer, and DOWNLOAD photos to a hard drive. Apple ID deletion is the most aggressive — most things are unrecoverable.

    PayPal

    Money

    What happens: Closes account. Past transactions kept by PayPal for IRS and audit reasons. Linked banks and cards detached.

    Steps

    1. 1.paypal.com → Settings → "Close your account".
    2. 2.Withdraw any balance first.
    3. 3.Confirm.

    Venmo

    Money

    What happens: Account closes after final balance withdraws. Transaction history kept for legal/tax purposes.

    Steps

    1. 1.Profile → Settings → Account → Close My Venmo Account.
    2. 2.Confirm withdraw of any balance.

    Uber

    Travel

    What happens: Account is hidden for 30 days, then permanently deleted. Riders cannot rate or contact you afterwards. Saved addresses and payment methods removed.

    Steps

    1. 1.Help → "Account and payment options" → "Account settings".
    2. 2."Delete your Uber account" → confirm.

    Quick Tip: download your data from each service before deleting. Most services have a "Download my data" option in account settings.
