Deepfake Video Spotter

Deepfake video tools often paste a face onto a body, but the mouth shapes do not line up perfectly with the words. Watch the mouth on full screen with sound on. If the lips and audio drift even a little, that is a major tell.

Real people blink about 15-20 times a minute, at uneven intervals. Deepfaked faces often blink too rarely, blink in a strange pattern, or skip blinking for long stretches. Count blinks during a 30-second clip.

Deepfaked faces tend to have an airbrushed quality. Pores, wrinkles, and small blemishes are smoothed away. The forehead and cheeks often look like soft plastic compared to the neck.

Hairlines are hard for deepfake software. Stray hairs near the temples and the edge of the forehead often look smeared, frozen, or oddly sharp against the background. Compare the hair edge to the rest of the head.

Small accessories sit on the boundary between the deepfaked face and the real body. Earrings sometimes appear on one ear and not the other. Glasses can warp, flicker, or change shape when the head turns.

Real eyes track tiny things — they shift, refocus, follow speech. Deepfaked eyes often look slightly vacant. The reflections in the eyes may also stay frozen instead of moving with the head.

When deepfake software replaces a face, the area around the face can wobble. Look at the wall, the curtain, or the doorframe behind the person. Shimmering, ghosting, or sudden blur is a sign the video has been edited.

A real public figure saying something newsworthy gets covered by many outlets, from many camera angles. A single viral clip with no second source — and no coverage on AP, Reuters, or major networks — is a serious warning sign.

Scam deepfakes often show a celebrity endorsing a get-rich product, a politician saying something shocking right before an election, or a "kidnapped" family member begging for money. Urgency and out-of-character behavior are classic manipulation. Stop, breathe, and verify before you act.
