    Roles that suit retirees well

    • Tax preparer (H&R Block hires Jan-April).
    • School bus driver — flexible, good benefits, even part-time.
    • Library assistant.
    • Museum docent / state park interpreter.
    • Substitute teacher — apply through local school district.
    • Tutor — Wyzant, Outschool, or local community center.
    • Customer service from home — many companies hire for phone work.
    • Bookkeeping for small businesses — if you have the skills.
    • Seasonal Amazon, FedEx, UPS — Nov/Dec.
    • Tax-Aide volunteer — unpaid but free training and meaningful work.

Income limits if collecting Social Security

If you take Social Security before your full retirement age (66-67), your earnings can reduce your benefit.

    • Before full retirement age: $1 reduced for every $2 earned over $22,320/yr (2025).
    • Year you reach full retirement age: Less strict.
    • After full retirement age: No earnings limit.

Most senior part-time jobs stay safely under the limit. But run the math at ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/.

    Watch out for job scams

"Work from home, $4000 a week, just deposit our check and send back the difference" — always a scam. Real employers never pay you upfront, never ask you to buy gift cards, never need you to wire money. Stick to known sites and verify the company on BBB.
