Shared Family Calendar Setup
One calendar everyone sees. Doctor appointments, school events, holidays — no more "I told you that already".
What does your family use?
iCloud Family Calendar
Everyone in the family has an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Setup steps
- 1
Set up Family Sharing
Settings → tap your name → Family → "Set Up Family". Invite up to 5 family members by email or text. They tap the link, accept, and join.
- 2
Open Calendar app on iPhone
Tap "Calendars" at the bottom → "+" Add Calendar → "Add iCloud Calendar".
- 3
Name it "Family"
Pick a color everyone can see (red is bold, green is calm). Tap Done.
- 4
Share it with the family group
Tap the "i" next to the new "Family" calendar → "Add Person" → invite each member by their Apple ID email.
- 5
Set who can edit vs view
Edit lets them add events. View-only is good for grandkids (they see soccer practice, cannot delete).
Pro move
Once set up, anyone in the family adds an event by picking the "Family" calendar at the bottom of the New Event screen. Everyone sees it within a minute.
What to put on the family calendar
- •Doctor and dentist appointments (so a spouse can drive if needed).
- •Birthdays of family members and close friends.
- •School events, sports practices, parent-teacher conferences.
- •Travel plans — flights, hotels, who-is-where.
- •Anniversaries, wedding/funeral dates that the whole family should remember.

Quick Tip: get the family in the habit of looking at the calendar Sunday night. Saves three "did you remember" texts a week.
