    Check if you have Alexa+

    Alexa+ is available to Amazon Prime members at no extra charge on compatible Echo devices (Echo Dot 5th gen, Echo Show 8 3rd gen, Echo Show 10, and newer). If you have Prime, open the Alexa appSettingsAlexa+ to confirm it is enabled on your device. For non-Prime members, Alexa+ is available for a separate monthly fee. The classic Alexa still works on older Echo devices, but without the generative AI features.

    Use Alexa+ for natural, multi-turn conversations

    The original Alexa needed short, specific commands. Alexa+ understands conversation. You can say "Alexa, I want to plan a birthday dinner for my husband next Saturday. He loves Italian food and we have a $100 budget." Alexa+ will ask follow-up questions, suggest options, and help you find a restaurant. You don't have to start over if you want to change something. Say "Actually, make it Friday instead," and it understands what you mean.

    Ask Alexa+ to do things on your behalf

    Alexa+ can take actions through connected services. A few examples: "Alexa, order me a medium cheese pizza from the nearest Dominos." "Alexa, call me an Uber to the airport in 20 minutes." "Alexa, find me tickets to a show this weekend under $50." "Alexa, buy more coffee on Amazon." These work once you connect your accounts (Uber, DoorDash, and so on) in the Alexa app under SettingsConnected Services. Alexa will always confirm with you before completing a purchase.

    Use Alexa+ for health and daily living help

    Alexa+ can also handle health questions conversationally: "Alexa, what are the symptoms of low blood pressure?" or "Alexa, my doctor mentioned I should watch my sodium intake — what foods are high in sodium?" The AI draws on reliable health sources. For medication reminders, smart home routines, and calendar management, Alexa+ works the same as before. But you can set these up in one conversation instead of giving a separate command for each step.

    Amazon released Alexa+ in 2025 — a major upgrade to the Alexa voice assistant that powers Echo devices. It uses generative AI, similar to what powers ChatGPT.
