Amazon offers music streaming at three different levels, and it can be confusing to understand what you get at each tier. This guide breaks it down clearly so you know exactly what you are paying for — or what you are already getting for free.
Amazon Music Free:
Available to everyone, no purchase or subscription required. You can listen to a limited catalog of songs with occasional ads. Think of it like free radio — you can shuffle playlists and stations but cannot choose specific songs on demand. Access it through the Amazon Music app.
Amazon Music Prime:
Included with an Amazon Prime subscription (which costs $14.99/month or $139/year as of 2026). Prime Music gives you access to over 100 million songs on demand, with no ads. You can create playlists, download songs for offline listening, and play any song you choose. If you have Amazon Prime, you already have this — many people do not realize Prime Music is included.
Amazon Music Unlimited:
An optional add-on ($10.99/month, or $8.99/month for Prime members). Unlimited adds higher quality audio (HD and Ultra HD), expanded content including exclusive releases, and a few million additional tracks not in the Prime catalog. For most casual listeners, Prime Music is sufficient and Unlimited is unnecessary.
For Echo and Alexa devices, Amazon Music integrates directly: "Alexa, play Frank Sinatra" works out of the box with any Amazon Music tier.
The Amazon Music app is free on iPhone and Android. Sign in with your Amazon account and you immediately see which tier you have access to.
