How to Cast Your Android Phone Screen to Your TV

Android phones can wirelessly share their screen on a Chromecast, Google TV, or many smart TVs using Cast — no cables needed.

    1

Connect your Chromecast or Google TV

    ~22s
If you have a Chromecast (the small device that plugs into your TV's HDMI port) or a TV with Google TV built in (from Sony, TCL, Hisense, or Chromecast with Google TV), make sure it's plugged in and on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. You can confirm by opening the Google Home app on your phone and checking that the device appears.
    2

    Cast directly from an app

    ~26s
In YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, or most Google apps, look for the Cast icon — it looks like a small rectangle with Wi-Fi waves in one corner. Tap it to see nearby Cast-compatible devices. Tap your TV or Chromecast to start sending audio and video directly to it.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: App casting is better quality than full screen mirroring because the video streams directly from the internet to the TV — your phone just acts as the remote control.

    3

Cast your full screen (Screen Cast)

    ~23s
To mirror your entire phone screen: swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification shade. Look for "Cast," "Screen Cast," or "Smart View" (on Samsung). Tap it. A list of nearby devices will appear. Tap your TV or Chromecast to start mirroring.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: On Samsung Galaxy phones, look for "Smart View" in the quick settings panel — it's Samsung's version of screen casting.

    4

What if you don't have Chromecast?

    ~15s
Many modern Samsung, LG, Sony, and TCL smart TVs support casting natively. Check your TV's settings for "Screen Mirroring," "Miracast," or "Smart View." If supported, enable it on the TV and then use your Android phone's screen cast feature to connect.
    5

    Stop casting

    ~15s
Pull down the notification shade on your phone and tap the Cast notification. Tap "Disconnect." Or open the Google Home app, tap the device, and tap "Stop." Your phone and TV return to their independent states.

Android phones have a built-in feature that lets you wirelessly send your phone's screen to a compatible TV or streaming device. This is called "Cast" or "Screen Cast" — and it works with Chromecast devices, Google TV (built into some TVs), and many Android TV devices.

With casting, you can show photos and videos from your phone on the big screen, display a video call for the whole room to see, share a website or app content, or use your phone as a kind of remote presenter while the TV shows the display.

Your phone and the TV/Chromecast need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Setup is quick and the connection is usually solid once established.
