How to Show Your iPhone Screen on Your TV with AirPlay

AirPlay lets you wirelessly display your iPhone screen on an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV — great for sharing photos, videos, or video calls on a big screen.

    1

Check if your TV supports AirPlay

    ~18s
Look in your TV's settings or menu for an "AirPlay" option. Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio smart TVs from 2019 onward usually include AirPlay. If your TV doesn't have it built in, you can add an Apple TV (a streaming box that plugs into your TV's HDMI port) or a third-party AirPlay receiver.
    2

    Enable AirPlay on your TV

    ~17s
On a Samsung TV: go to Settings > General > Apple AirPlay Settings > turn on AirPlay. On an LG TV: press Home > Connection > AirPlay. On most Apple TV devices, AirPlay is always on. Check your TV's manual if you're not sure where to find it.
    3

    Mirror your iPhone screen

    ~26s
On your iPhone, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center. Tap "Screen Mirroring" (looks like two overlapping rectangles). A list of nearby AirPlay devices will appear. Tap your TV's name. After a brief moment, your iPhone screen will appear on the TV.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: The iPhone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you don't see your TV in the list, check that both are connected to the same Wi-Fi.

    4

AirPlay a specific video or photo

    ~20s
You don't have to mirror your whole screen. In Photos, tap the Share button (square with an upward arrow) and choose "AirPlay" to send a photo or video directly to the TV. In supported apps like YouTube, Netflix, or Safari, look for the AirPlay icon (a rectangle with a triangle underneath) in the video player and tap it.
    5

    Stop AirPlay when done

    ~15s
Open Control Center again (swipe down from top-right on iPhone), tap "Screen Mirroring," and tap "Stop Mirroring." Your iPhone screen returns to private mode. Alternatively, press the Home button on your Apple TV remote.

AirPlay is Apple's wireless technology for sharing your iPhone or iPad screen on a compatible TV — no cables, no setup wizard, just tap a button. Your entire screen appears on the TV so everyone in the room can see what's on your phone.

AirPlay works with Apple TV devices and most modern smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio that have AirPlay built in. Both your iPhone and the TV need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

You can use AirPlay to: show family photos on the big screen, stream a video from your phone to the TV, share a video call so the whole family can see, or display any app that you'd prefer to see on a larger display.
