Apple Watch Tips for Everyday Use

These everyday Apple Watch features — quick replies, watch faces, fall detection, medication reminders, and more — make a big difference in how useful your watch is.

    1

    Customize your watch face

    ~24s
Press and hold your watch face to edit it. Tap "Customize" to change the complications (the small data displays around the dial). Add complications showing: battery percentage, your next calendar appointment, activity rings, weather, or your heart rate. A well-chosen watch face gives you the most important information at a glance.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: The "Modular" and "Infograph" watch faces have the most space for complications. Choose one of these if you want maximum information density.

    2

Use quick replies to texts from your wrist

    ~19s
When a text notification appears on your watch, scroll down to see reply options. Apple Watch offers suggested quick replies ("OK," "On my way," "Yes," "No") plus a way to dictate a voice reply — tap the microphone icon and speak your response. Great for acknowledging messages when you can't reach for your phone.
    3

    Enable fall detection

    ~26s
Go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone > Emergency SOS > turn on Fall Detection. If the watch detects a hard fall and you don't respond within 60 seconds, it automatically calls 911 and sends your location to your emergency contacts. This is one of the most important safety features, especially for people who live alone.

    Warning

Fall Detection can occasionally trigger during exercises like golf or tennis. During workouts, you can temporarily disable it in the workout settings if you prefer.

    4

    Set medication reminders

    ~16s
Open the Health app on your iPhone, go to Browse > Medications. Add your medications with their schedule. The Apple Watch taps you on the wrist at the scheduled time to remind you to take your medication. You can mark each medication as taken directly from the watch.
    5

Check your heart rate and daily activity rings

    ~21s
Press the Digital Crown to go to the app list, or use the Workout app to track exercise. Your daily rings show Move (calories burned), Exercise (minutes of activity), and Stand (hours standing). The goal is to close all three rings daily. Tap any ring for detail. Heart rate is measured automatically and stored in the Health app for review.
