    1

    Download the Audible App

    ~15s
Search for Audible in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and install the free app. Once installed, open it.
    2

Sign In or Create an Account

    ~26s
If you have an Amazon account, tap Sign In and use your Amazon email and password — your Audible account is the same as your Amazon account. If you do not have an Amazon account, tap Create a New Amazon Account and follow the prompts. You will need an email address and a password.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Signing up through the Audible website (audible.com) on a computer may make account creation easier than on a small phone screen.

    3

    Start Your Free Trial

    ~25s
After signing in, Audible will likely offer you a free trial. Tap Start Your Free Trial and enter your payment information. You will not be charged during the trial period. Make a note of when the trial ends so you can cancel if you decide not to continue.

    Warning

Set a calendar reminder for a few days before your free trial ends. If you do not cancel in time, you will be charged the monthly subscription fee automatically.

    4

    Browse and Choose a Book

    ~29s
Tap Browse or Discover at the bottom of the app. You can search for a specific book title or author, or browse categories like Bestsellers, Classics, or Mystery. Tap any book to see its description, narrator details, and a free sample. Tap Buy with 1 Credit (or the price if you have no credits) to purchase it.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Before buying, tap the Play Sample button to hear the narrator's voice. Since you will be listening for several hours, choosing a narrator you enjoy makes a big difference.

    5

    Download and Start Listening

    ~17s
After purchasing, the audiobook will appear in your Library tab. Tap the book cover, then tap the Download button (a downward arrow) to save it to your phone for listening without internet. Tap Play to start. Use the playback controls to pause, skip back 30 seconds, or change the narration speed.

Audible is an app from Amazon that lets you listen to audiobooks — professionally narrated recordings of books — on your phone, tablet, or computer. Instead of reading, you listen. You can enjoy audiobooks while driving, doing chores, going for a walk, or relaxing at home.

Audible is a subscription service that charges a monthly fee (around $15 per month as of 2026) and includes one credit per month to buy any audiobook. Your purchased audiobooks belong to you and stay in your library even if you cancel your subscription. Audible also includes Audible Plus, a catalog of audiobooks and podcasts available to stream at no extra cost with a membership.

If you have never used Audible before, Amazon typically offers a free trial period (usually 30 days) that includes one or two free audiobook credits. You can use the free trial to get started without any upfront cost, and you can cancel before the trial ends if you decide it is not for you.

You can also access Audible through an existing Amazon account, which most people already have. The app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play — you only pay for the subscription and the books.

For people who find reading on screens tiring, or who have difficulty reading small print, audiobooks can be a wonderful alternative. Many popular bestsellers, classic novels, self-help books, and biographies are available as audiobooks with excellent narrators.
