Bank of America Mobile Banking App: Setup and Everyday Tasks

The Bank of America Mobile Banking app lets you check balances, deposit checks, transfer funds, and pay bills from your iPhone or Android phone.

Search "Bank of America Mobile Banking" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Download the free app and open it. If you already have online banking set up, tap "Sign In" and enter your Online ID and password. If this is your first time using digital banking with Bank of America, tap "Enroll" and follow the steps. You will need your account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

Set up quick access with fingerprint or Face ID

After your first sign-in, the app will ask if you want to set up fingerprint or Face ID login. Tap "Set Up Now" and follow the prompts. This lets you open the app and view your accounts with a touch or glance instead of typing your password. You can also set a 6-digit passcode as an alternative. Quick access settings can be changed later under Profile > Security Settings.

Quick Tip: Enable account alerts under Profile > Alerts. Setting a low-balance alert at $100 or $200 gives you advance warning before you accidentally overdraft.

View your accounts and transactions

The home screen shows your accounts and their current balances. Tap any account to see a detailed transaction history. You can scroll through recent charges and deposits, tap any transaction for more details, and search for a specific merchant or date using the search icon. If you see a charge you do not recognize, tap it to see the full merchant name — sometimes abbreviated names on statements look unfamiliar.

Deposit a check using your phone

Tap "Deposit" in the app's menu, then "Deposit a Check." Choose which account to deposit into. Sign the back of your check and write "For Mobile Deposit Only" beneath your signature. Point your camera at the front of the check and follow the on-screen guides until it captures the image, then do the same for the back. Enter the check amount and submit. Most deposits are available by the next business day.

Pay bills and transfer money

Tap "Transfer & Pay" in the bottom navigation. From here you can transfer money between your own Bank of America accounts (available right away or the next business day), set up payments to outside companies like your electric bill or a loan at another bank, or send money to someone using Zelle. For bill payments, search for the company by name, enter your account number with that company, and schedule a payment date.

Warning

Schedule bill payments at least 2 to 3 business days before the due date to make sure the payment arrives on time. Payments to external companies can take one to three business days to process.

Bank of America is one of the most widely used banks in the United States, and its Mobile Banking app brings most everyday banking tasks to your phone. Whether you have a checking account, savings account, or a Bank of America credit card, you can see all of them in one place and manage them without visiting a branch.

The app is free to download and does not add any charges to your account. Common things you can do with it include checking your current balance and recent transactions, depositing a paper check by photographing it, transferring money between your Bank of America accounts, paying bills, sending money to friends and family using Zelle, setting up account alerts for low balances or large purchases, and temporarily locking your debit or credit card if you misplace it.

Bank of America's mobile app also includes a virtual assistant named Erica. Erica can answer questions about your account — for example, "How much did I spend on groceries last month?" or "When is my credit card payment due?" — without you needing to navigate through menus. You can type your question or speak it aloud.

To get started, you need an existing Bank of America account. If you already use Bank of America Online Banking on a computer, you can use the same username and password in the app. If you are new to online banking with Bank of America, the app includes an enrollment option that walks you through creating your credentials.

Download the app by searching "Bank of America Mobile Banking" in the App Store or Google Play Store. Look for the red Bank of America flag logo.
