    Bluetooth Explained: Connecting Devices Wirelessly

Understand Bluetooth and learn to connect headphones, speakers, keyboards, and more to your devices.

    1

    What is Bluetooth?

    ~15s
Bluetooth is a wireless technology that connects devices over short distances (usually 30-50 feet). It's how your wireless headphones, speakers, keyboards, and mice connect to your phone or computer.
    2

    How pairing works

    ~15s
Pairing is a one-time process that introduces two devices to each other. After pairing, they reconnect automatically. You put one device in "pairing mode" (usually holding a button), then find it on your phone or computer.
    3

    Connect Bluetooth headphones

    ~15s
Put headphones in pairing mode (check your headphone manual — usually hold the power button 3-5 seconds until a light flashes). On your phone: Settings > Bluetooth > tap the headphone name to pair.
    4

    Connect a Bluetooth speaker

    ~15s
Turn on the speaker and press the Bluetooth/pairing button. On your phone: Settings > Bluetooth > tap the speaker name. Once connected, all audio plays through the speaker.
    5

    Connect to your car

    ~15s
In your car's infotainment system, go to Bluetooth settings and enable pairing. On your phone, find the car name in Bluetooth settings. Enter the PIN shown on the car screen (usually 0000 or 1234).
    6

    Troubleshooting

    ~15s
Device not found? Make sure Bluetooth is on for both devices. Restart both devices. "Forget" the device in settings and try pairing again. Stay within 30 feet. Only one phone can connect to most speakers at a time.
    7

    Bluetooth versions

    ~15s
Bluetooth 5.0+ is current: faster, longer range, better battery life. Older devices work with newer ones (backward compatible) but at the older device's capabilities. Check specs when buying new accessories.
