    How to Create a Facebook Account

    Facebook is the easiest way to keep up with family and friends online. Here's how to create a free account in a few minutes.

    Go to Facebook.com

    Open your web browser (Chrome, Safari, or Edge) and type facebook.com into the address bar at the top.

    Fill in the sign-up form

    Click "Create New Account." Enter your first name, last name, email address or mobile number, a new password, your date of birth, and your gender. Then click "Sign Up."

    Warning

    Choose a password you have not used on any other website. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

    Confirm your account

    Facebook will send a confirmation code to your email or phone. Open your email or texts, find the code, and type it into the confirmation box on Facebook.

    Add a profile photo

    Click on the silhouette photo on your profile page, then "Upload Photo." Choose a clear photo of yourself. This helps friends and family recognize you.

    Use a recent photo where your face is clearly visible. This is how old friends will find you.

    Find friends and family

    Use the search bar at the top to search for people you know by name. When you find someone, click "Add Friend." They will receive a friend request.

    Go to Settings and Privacy, then Privacy Shortcuts, and set "Who can see your future posts?" to "Friends." This means only people you have accepted as friends can see what you share.
