Facebook Marketplace is a free classifieds section built into Facebook where you can sell items to buyers in your local area. It is similar to Craigslist but easier to use because buyers and sellers can see each other's Facebook profiles, which adds a layer of trust.
You can sell almost anything: furniture, clothes, household items, electronics, plants, sports equipment, and more. Listing an item takes about five minutes — take a few photos, add a title and description, set a price, and post. Facebook shows your listing to nearby shoppers automatically.
Most Marketplace sales are cash transactions — the buyer meets you in person, pays cash, and takes the item. Facebook also offers "Facebook Pay" for some transactions if both parties prefer digital payment.
Selling on Marketplace is free. Facebook does not take a percentage of local (in-person) sales, though there is a small fee for shipped items sold through their commerce system.
Safety is important. Most buyers are honest, but following a few common-sense rules keeps every transaction smooth. Meet in public places, bring a friend when possible, and never accept payment methods you do not understand.
