Plug in the Fire TV Stick

    ~36s
Find the HDMI port on your TV — it is a small rectangular port, usually on the back or side of the TV, labeled HDMI. Plug the Fire TV Stick directly into the HDMI port. Then connect the included power cable to the side of the Fire TV Stick and plug the other end into a wall outlet (or a USB port on your TV, if available). Turn on your TV.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If the Fire TV Stick is too large to fit comfortably in the HDMI port without touching another port or the wall, use the HDMI extender cable that comes in the box. It gives a few extra inches of clearance.

    2

Switch your TV to the correct input

    ~24s
Use your TV remote to switch the input (also called source) to the HDMI port where the Fire TV Stick is plugged in. Press the Input or Source button on your TV remote — it usually has an icon that looks like a rectangle with an arrow. Select the HDMI number that matches the port you used (for example, HDMI 2). You should see the Fire TV setup screen appear.
    3

Set up the remote and connect to Wi-Fi

    ~33s
Press the Home button on the Fire TV remote (the circle icon) to wake it up. Pair it with the stick if prompted. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose your language, then connect to your Wi-Fi network — select your network name from the list and enter your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard. Use the directional buttons and the center select button to navigate.

    Warning

Make sure to enter your Wi-Fi password correctly — passwords are case-sensitive. If you make a mistake, use the back button to correct characters. The Fire TV will tell you if the password is wrong.

    4

Sign in to your Amazon account

    ~20s
Once connected to Wi-Fi, the Fire TV will ask you to sign in to an Amazon account. If you already have an Amazon account (the one you use for shopping), enter that email and password. If you registered the Fire TV Stick while purchasing it on Amazon with your account, it may already be registered automatically — just confirm.
    5

    Download apps and start watching

    ~23s
After sign-in, you will see the Fire TV home screen with a row of apps at the top. Apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video may already appear. To add more apps, go to Find (in the top menu bar) and then App Store. Search for any streaming service by name and select Download or Get. Once installed, open the app, sign in with your subscription account, and start watching.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a small device — about the size of a USB thumb drive — that plugs into the back of your TV and turns it into a smart TV. Once set up, you can watch Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, YouTube, and hundreds of other streaming services.

If your TV is older and does not have apps built in, the Fire TV Stick is one of the least expensive ways to add streaming — prices start around $25. If your TV already has apps, the Fire TV Stick is still useful because it is often faster and more reliable than the apps built into older smart TVs.

The Fire TV Stick plugs into your TV's HDMI port — the same type of rectangular port that a DVD player or cable box uses. Every modern TV has at least one HDMI port, usually on the back or side.

You control the Fire TV Stick with a remote that comes in the box. The remote uses voice commands through Alexa — press the microphone button and say "Play Stranger Things on Netflix" or "Find action movies." You can also navigate with the directional buttons like a traditional remote.

You will need an Amazon account (free to create) to set up and use the Fire TV Stick. Many apps like Netflix require their own separate subscription — the Fire TV Stick itself does not give you access to paid services.

The Fire TV Stick requires a Wi-Fi connection. It will not work without the internet.
