Getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health — and your iPhone has tools specifically designed to help you build better sleep habits.
The iPhone's Health app includes a Sleep feature (called "Sleep" or "Sleep Schedule") that works differently from a regular alarm. Instead of just waking you up, it tracks your sleep, sends you a gentle reminder when it's time to wind down for bed, and wakes you up with a gradually increasing alarm tone at a specific time.
Here's what the Sleep feature does: - **Bedtime reminder:** Your iPhone sends you a notification in the evening reminding you that it's almost time for sleep. This nudge helps you start wrapping up your day and getting ready for bed. - **Sleep Focus:** When your bedtime arrives, your phone automatically switches to a "Sleep Focus" mode that silences most notifications so your sleep isn't disturbed. Your phone still shows the time and allows alarms and emergency calls. - **Wake Up alarm:** At your chosen wake-up time, a gentle alarm plays — by default it starts quietly and gradually gets louder, which many people find much more comfortable than a sudden loud noise.
The Sleep feature can also connect with Apple Watch to track how long you actually sleep and give you sleep data in the Health app over time. But you don't need an Apple Watch — the Health app's sleep scheduling works on any iPhone.
