How to Track Walks and Runs with Nike Run Club

Nike Run Club is a free app that tracks your walks and runs, cheers you on with audio coaching, and helps you build a healthy movement habit.

    1

Download and create a Nike account

    ~17s
Search for "Nike Run Club" in the App Store or Google Play. Download the free app. You'll need a free Nike account — tap "Join Us" and sign up with your email, or sign in with Apple or Google. Your account stores your run history across devices.
    2

    Set up your profile

    ~17s
Enter your height and weight — the app uses these for calorie estimates. Choose your primary activity (run or walk). Set a weekly goal in minutes to give the app a target to work toward. Tap the gear icon in the top right to access profile and goal settings.
    3

Start a tracked run or walk

    ~21s
Tap the large "Run" button on the home screen. The app shows your current GPS location. Press the orange "Start" button to begin tracking. Your phone will announce distance and time at each mile marker. Tap pause to rest and the play button to continue.

    Quick Tip

Bring headphones — the audio updates and guided run coaching are best experienced with earphones.

    4

    Try a Guided Run

    ~25s
Tap "Guided Runs" from the home screen to browse audio-guided sessions. Filter by duration (try "20-30 min" to start) or type. Tap a session to preview it. Press Start to begin — the guide will talk you through the workout as you go. There are sessions specifically for beginning walkers and runners.

    Quick Tip

The "First Run" guided session is a great starting point — it's designed for people who are new to the app or returning from a break.

    5

    View your history and milestones

    ~23s
After finishing, the app shows a summary of your workout with distance, time, pace, and a map of your route. Tap "Activities" at the bottom to see your full history. NRC awards you milestone badges as you reach distance achievements (first mile, 50 total miles, etc.).

    Quick Tip

Connect NRC to Apple Health (iPhone) or Google Fit (Android) in Settings so all your workouts count toward your daily activity goals.

Nike Run Club (NRC) is a free running and walking app available for iPhone and Android. It tracks your distance, pace, time, and route using your phone's GPS, and plays your music or podcasts while providing periodic audio updates during your workout.

One of NRC's standout features is its Guided Runs — these are audio experiences led by coaches, athletes, and motivational speakers that play through your earphones while you walk or run. There are guided sessions for beginners just starting out, meditative walks, intervals, and more. They feel like having a personal trainer in your ear.

The app is completely free. Nike offers a premium subscription called NRC+ with additional coaching plans, but the free version has everything most people need — run tracking, GPS maps, audio guidance, and achievement badges.

Nike Run Club works well for walkers too, not just runners. Any type of outdoor movement — walking, jogging, hiking — can be tracked. The app connects with Apple Health and Google Fit to add your workouts to your health data.

NRC is also social: you can connect with friends, cheer each other on, and participate in virtual challenges. These social features are optional — many people use it entirely solo.
