    1

Download the Pandora app or go to pandora.com

    ~21s
On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and search for "Pandora." On Android, open the Google Play Store and search for "Pandora." Tap Install or Get, then open the app. You can also visit pandora.com in any web browser on your computer.

    Quick Tip

The app is free to download — you will not be charged anything for installing it.

    2

    Create your free account

    ~16s
Tap "Sign Up Free" and enter your email address, a password, your birth year, and your ZIP code. Pandora uses your ZIP code only to comply with music licensing rules — it does not share your location. No credit card is required for the free tier.
    3

    Create your first station

    ~16s
In the search bar at the top of the app, type the name of an artist, song, or genre you enjoy. For example, type "Frank Sinatra" or "country music" or "relaxing piano." Tap the result that matches best, then tap "Create Station." Pandora will start playing music immediately.
    4

Train your station with thumbs up and thumbs down

    ~25s
When a song plays that you enjoy, tap the thumbs up icon. When a song plays that you do not like, tap the thumbs down icon. Pandora will skip that track and avoid songs like it in the future. The more you rate songs, the more accurate your station becomes over time.

    Quick Tip

You can skip up to six songs per hour on the free plan. Save your skips for songs you really dislike.

    5

Create additional stations for different moods

    ~17s
Tap the menu icon (three lines) and choose "My Collection" or "Stations" to see all your stations. Tap the search bar again to create a new station based on a different artist or genre. You can switch between stations any time you want a change of pace.
    6

Connect Pandora to your smart speaker or TV

    ~18s
If you have an Amazon Echo, say "Alexa, play my [station name] station on Pandora." Link your Pandora account in the Alexa app under Music settings first. On a smart TV or Roku, look for the Pandora app in your device's app store and sign in with the same account.

Pandora is one of the oldest music streaming services in the United States, and it remains one of the most beginner-friendly options available today. Unlike services that require you to pick every song yourself, Pandora works like a smart radio station — you tell it an artist or song you like, and it builds a continuous stream of music with a similar sound.

The free version of Pandora is supported by short audio and display ads, similar to how traditional radio works. You do not need a credit card or any payment information to create an account and start listening. All you need is an email address and a password.

To get started, download the Pandora app from the App Store on iPhone or iPad, or from the Google Play Store on Android. You can also use Pandora in any web browser by going to pandora.com. Once you create your free account and log in, type the name of a favorite artist or song into the search bar. Pandora will create a station based on that choice and start playing music right away.

As songs play, use the thumbs up button to tell Pandora you like a track. Use the thumbs down button if you want to skip it and never hear it again on that station. Over time, Pandora learns your preferences and the station gets better at matching your taste.

On the free tier, you can skip a limited number of songs per hour — typically six. If you want unlimited skips and no ads, Pandora Plus costs around $4.99 per month. Pandora Premium, at roughly $9.99 per month, adds on-demand playback where you can pick specific songs like a traditional streaming service.

You can create multiple stations — one for classic rock, one for country, one for relaxing instrumental music — and switch between them whenever you like. Pandora also has pre-built Genre Radio stations if you want to explore new music without naming a specific artist.

Pandora works on Amazon Echo speakers (ask Alexa to play your Pandora station), on many smart TVs, on Roku devices, and through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in newer vehicles. It is a solid, no-cost option for people who want background music without having to manage a playlist.
