Roblox Safety for Parents: Account Restrictions, Chat Filters, and Spending Controls

Roblox is one of the most popular online platforms for children and teenagers, with hundreds of millions of accounts worldwide. It is not a single game but rather a platform where users can play millions of different games created by other users, as well as create their own games. Children usually love Roblox for its creativity and social elements. They can play with friends, explore new experiences, and build their own worlds.

For parents, the social and open-ended nature of Roblox raises some valid concerns. Players can chat with each other in real time, make purchases using the in-game currency called Robux, and encounter games created by strangers that may include mature themes. Roblox has built-in safety tools that address most of these concerns. But they need to be actively turned on by parents.

The most important controls are Account Restrictions (which lock the account to a curated list of age-appropriate games and prevent chat with strangers), chat settings (which control who can message your child), and spending controls (which limit or require approval for Robux purchases). Roblox also offers Parental PIN protection so your child cannot change their own safety settings.

Setting up these controls takes about 10 to 15 minutes and requires you to know your child's Roblox account username and password, or to set up the account yourself from the beginning. Once configured, the settings hold until you change them — your child cannot override them without the Parental PIN you create.
