How to Use Samsung Pay to Pay with Your Galaxy Phone

Samsung Pay lets Galaxy phone users pay at almost any store checkout by tapping their phone — even at terminals that don't have tap-to-pay.

    1

Open Samsung Pay or Samsung Wallet

    ~15s
Look for the Samsung Pay or Samsung Wallet app on your Galaxy phone. If you don't have it, search in the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store. Sign in with your Samsung account (the same one you use for your Samsung phone setup).
    2

    Add a card

    ~21s
Tap the "+" button or "Add card." Point your camera at your credit or debit card to scan it, or enter the card details manually. You'll need the card number, expiration date, and security code. Your bank will send a verification code to confirm it's you.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Most Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards issued by major US banks work with Samsung Pay.

    3

Set up your fingerprint or PIN for security

    ~15s
Samsung Pay requires fingerprint verification, iris scan, or PIN before each payment. If you haven't already, set up your fingerprint in Settings > Biometrics and security > Fingerprints. Using your fingerprint is faster than typing a PIN.
    4

    Pay at a store

    ~19s
At checkout, swipe up from the bottom of your screen (even from the lock screen) to open Samsung Pay. Or open the Samsung Pay/Wallet app. Select the card you want to use. When ready, hold the back of your phone near (or against) the card reader terminal. Verify with fingerprint or PIN. You'll see a payment confirmed screen.
    5

    Check your payment history

    ~18s
Open Samsung Pay/Wallet and tap the card you used to see a recent transaction history. This lets you quickly confirm a payment went through or spot any unexpected charges.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Samsung Pay transactions still appear on your regular credit or debit card statement — Samsung Pay doesn't create a separate account or bill.

Samsung Pay is a payment app available on Samsung Galaxy phones that lets you pay at store checkouts by tapping your phone. It works much like Google Pay, but Samsung Pay has a special advantage: it uses both NFC (the standard tap-to-pay technology) and a technology called MST that mimics a magnetic stripe card swipe. This means Samsung Pay works at virtually any card terminal — even older terminals that can't accept tap payments.

Setting up Samsung Pay takes about five minutes and requires your Samsung account and a participating debit or credit card. Once set up, you can leave most of your physical cards at home and pay with your phone at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, and more.

Note: Samsung Pay was rebranded as Samsung Wallet in 2022 on newer Galaxy phones, but the payment functionality is the same. This guide covers both versions.
