Android phones have a built-in feature for mirroring your screen to a TV — no cables required. Depending on your phone brand and your TV setup, it works through Google Cast, Samsung Smart View, Miracast, or a Chromecast device plugged into your TV.
The most reliable approach uses a Chromecast or a TV with Chromecast built in. Chromecast is a small device (about the size of a thumb drive) that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Once set up, you can cast from any Android phone or Chrome browser to that TV. Many smart TVs now have Chromecast built in — check your TV's settings for a "Cast" option.
Samsung phones have their own feature called Smart View or Wireless DeX, which can connect directly to Samsung Smart TVs or compatible displays without needing a Chromecast.
Older TVs without any smart features can still receive Android screen mirroring if your phone supports Miracast — an older wireless screen-sharing standard. However, Chromecast is more reliable and gives better results.
Like AirPlay on iPhone, Android mirroring has two modes: full screen mirroring (everything on your phone appears on TV) and app-specific casting (just a video or photo is sent to the TV while your phone stays usable).
All devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for casting to work. The quality depends on your Wi-Fi signal — a strong signal close to your router gives the smoothest experience.
