Apple Notes is more than a place to jot things down — it also lets you share individual notes with other people so you can all view and edit the same note together. This is perfect for shared grocery lists, trip planning documents, family medical information, or any note where more than one person needs to contribute.
Once you share a note, the other person gets an invitation (sent via Messages or email). When they accept, the note appears in their Notes app and any changes either of you make will update for both of you right away. You can see who made recent edits and even add comments or mentions.
Shared notes work between iPhones, iPads, and Macs — anyone with Apple Notes and an Apple ID can collaborate. The notes are stored in iCloud so they stay in sync across all your Apple devices automatically.
Some good uses for shared notes: - A grocery list shared with a spouse — whoever is at the store can check things off in real time - A holiday gift list everyone in the family can update - Meeting notes that multiple people can add to during a call - A shared packing list for a group trip - Important phone numbers and contacts the whole family can access
You can also lock a shared note if it contains sensitive information — but note that locking removes the ability to collaborate until it's unlocked again.
