SilverSneakers is a fitness program included as a free benefit with many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans and some Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans. If your plan includes SilverSneakers, you can use it at over 15,000 gym and fitness locations nationwide — including major chains like LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, YMCA, and Anytime Fitness — at no cost beyond your regular plan premium.
The program also includes live and on-demand fitness classes designed specifically for older adults, available through the SilverSneakers app and website. Classes include chair yoga, strength training, balance, cardio, and water aerobics.
To find out if SilverSneakers is included in your plan, call the member services number on your insurance card and ask, or visit SilverSneakers.com and enter your insurance information.
Once enrolled, you get a member ID number that you show at participating gyms to use their facilities for free. No day passes, no monthly fees — just show your ID.
SilverSneakers online classes are completely free even without gym membership. You can access hundreds of workout videos through the app or website. These are useful for days when you cannot get to a gym or prefer to exercise at home.
Regular exercise dramatically reduces the risk of falls, improves balance, maintains bone density, and supports mental health in older adults. SilverSneakers makes it very accessible.
