Simplifi is made by Quicken — the company behind decades of personal finance software — but it is designed to be much more accessible than the full Quicken program. Where Quicken is a comprehensive financial management platform with significant complexity, Simplifi focuses on a clean, modern interface that emphasizes simplicity without sacrificing usefulness.
The app connects to your bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts to automatically import and categorize transactions. Its most notable feature is the "Spending Plan" — a real-time view that shows how much money you have available to spend this month after accounting for your recurring bills, planned expenses, and savings goals. Unlike a traditional budget where you allocate categories in advance, Simplifi's spending plan adapts dynamically as your actual transactions come in.
Simplifi costs $2.99 per month (billed annually at $35.88 per year) or $5.99 per month if billed monthly. A free 30-day trial is available. The price is notably lower than some competing budgeting apps, making it a reasonable entry point for people who want more structure than a basic spending tracker but are not ready to commit to a more involved system.
The app does a particularly good job of identifying recurring subscriptions and bills. It surfaces all your automatic charges — streaming services, insurance premiums, gym memberships, and utility bills — in one view so you can see exactly what is being charged to your accounts every month. Many people find subscriptions they had forgotten about this way, and cancel ones they no longer use.
Simplifi is available on iPhone, Android, and through a web browser. It does not offer as much depth as YNAB or Monarch Money for complex budgeting needs, but for straightforward spending awareness and account tracking, it works very well.
