Download the Nextdoor app or go to nextdoor.com. Enter your home address — Nextdoor will verify it by sending a postcard in the mail or using a phone number or credit card on file.

Build a profile

Add your real first name and last initial, a photo, and a short bio. Neighbors are more likely to trust your posts and replies when they can see who you are.

Read the local feed

The Home tab shows posts from people within a mile or two. Common posts include "Who is a good plumber?" "Did anyone hear that noise?" and "Found dog on Oak Street."

Post a question or update

Tap the pencil or "Post" button. Pick a category (Recommendations, Lost & Found, For Sale, Safety). Keep it short and friendly — this is a small community.

Stay civil

Nextdoor is known for heated arguments about parking and politics. Stick to helpful posts, mute users you do not get along with, and report anything that feels like harassment or a scam.
