How to Navigate Your Vizio Smart TV

Vizio SmartCast TVs let you stream apps, cast from your phone, and control everything from the SmartCast app — here's how to get started.

    1

Set up Wi-Fi on your Vizio TV

    ~15s
Press Menu on the remoteNetworkWireless Access Points → choose your Wi-Fi network → enter your password. The TV needs internet to stream apps.
    2

    Navigate the Home screen

    ~21s
Press the Home button (it may look like a house). Apps appear as icons in a row at the bottom of the screen. Use the directional arrows on the remote to highlight an app, then press OK to open it.

    Quick Tip

If you press V on the remote, you open the SmartCast menu directly. On older Vizio remotes, the Home button might have a "V" symbol.

    3

Download the Vizio SmartCast mobile app

    ~15s
Search "Vizio SmartCast" in the App Store or Google Play. Download and open the app → tap "Control" → the app detects your Vizio TV automatically. Accept the pairing prompt on the TV.
    4

    Cast content from your phone

    ~15s
In Netflix, YouTube, or another cast-compatible app on your phone, look for the cast icon (rectangle with waves) and tap it. Select your Vizio TV. The content will play on the big screen.
    5

Restart the TV if it is slow

    ~15s
If apps freeze or the TV is slow, go to MenuSystemReset & AdminSoft Power Cycle. Or simply unplug the power cord from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.

Vizio Smart TVs use a system called SmartCast that works differently from Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Instead of a traditional app store on the TV itself, many Vizio models are designed to be controlled from the Vizio SmartCast app on your phone. However, newer Vizio TVs also have a built-in menu with streaming apps available directly on the screen.

    Built-in apps

: Press the Home button on your Vizio remote. You will see a row of app icons at the bottom of the screen — Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, and others. Use the directional pad on the remote to navigate and click to open them.

    SmartCast app control

: Download the Vizio SmartCast app on your phone. Connect it to your TV over Wi-Fi. You can use the app as a remote, search for content, and cast content directly from your phone to the TV.

    Casting from your phone

: Any app that supports Google Cast (Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, etc.) can cast content to your Vizio TV. Look for the cast icon (a rectangle with waves) in the app and tap it to send the video to your TV.

    Vizio Voice Remote

: Many Vizio remotes have a microphone button. Press it and speak a channel name, show title, or app name to search or open it directly without navigating menus.

If your Vizio TV seems slow or apps stop working, the most common fix is to unplug the TV from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. This clears temporary files and usually resolves issues.
