Sign up for a free Wix account

    ~16s
Go to wix.com and click "Get Started." Enter your email address and create a password, or sign in with a Google account. Creating a Wix account is completely free and gives you immediate access to the website builder. No credit card is required.

Choose how to create your site

    ~31s
Wix offers two options: use Wix ADI (the AI website builder) which creates a personalized site after answering a few questions, or choose a template yourself and edit it manually. For most beginners, Wix ADI is the faster and less overwhelming option. For people who want complete control over the starting design, browsing templates is better.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If you try one approach and don't like the result, you can always start over. Wix doesn't lock you into a design choice. You can create a fresh site at any time from your account dashboard.

Edit your site in the drag-and-drop editor

    ~29s
Once inside the Wix editor, click on any element to select it. Drag it to a new position, or click to edit the text and image content. Use the left-side panel to add new elements — text, images, buttons, video, maps, forms, and more. Each element can be resized and repositioned anywhere on the page.

    Warning

Wix's free editor does not automatically make mobile-friendly adjustments when you move elements. After editing your desktop layout, click the phone icon at the top to see and edit the mobile view separately.

    4

Add pages and set up navigation

    ~19s
Find the Pages menu in the left-side panel. Click the plus (+) icon to add new pages — About, Contact, Gallery, Services, and so on. After adding a page, click into it to add and arrange content. You can reorder pages in the navigation menu by dragging them up or down in the Pages panel.
    5

    Publish your site

    ~31s
When you're happy with your site, click the "Publish" button in the top right corner. Your site goes live on the internet at your Wix address (username.wixsite.com/yoursite). Copy this address and share it with whoever you want to visit your site. You can continue editing and updating the site after publishing — click "Publish" again after making changes.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: After publishing, use the Wix mobile app (available for iPhone and Android) to manage your site on the go. You can make quick text edits, view your visitor stats, and receive contact form submissions directly from your phone.

Wix is one of the most popular website builders in the world and offers a genuinely free plan that lets you create and publish a website without paying anything. The free plan gives you a site at an address like username.wixsite.com/yoursite. And it includes access to hundreds of design templates and a drag-and-drop editor.

The drag-and-drop editor is Wix's signature feature: you can click on any element — a text block, an image, a button — and drag it anywhere on the page. This gives you more layout freedom than most website builders, which follow fixed column-based layouts.

Wix also offers an AI-powered website builder called Wix ADI that asks you a few questions about your site and then creates a personalized starting design. This can be a faster starting point if you don't want to select and edit a template manually.

The free plan does have limitations: your site address will include "wixsite.com" in the URL, Wix ads appear at the top of your site, and storage space is limited to 500 MB. To remove the ads, get a custom domain, and increase storage, you'll need to upgrade to a paid Wix plan starting around $17 per month.

For hobby sites, personal portfolios, community pages, or testing a business idea, the free plan is perfectly functional. Many people run their sites on the free plan for years without needing to upgrade.

Wix has an extensive help center, tutorial videos, and a community forum where you can get answers from other users. The platform has been around since 2006 and is reliable and well-maintained.
