Open Zocdoc and enter your details

    ~32s
Go to zocdoc.com on a computer or download the free Zocdoc app from the App Store or Google Play. On the main search screen, enter the type of care you need — for example, "primary care doctor," "cardiologist," or "dermatologist." Enter your city or zip code and then enter your insurance provider and plan name. Zocdoc will filter results to show only providers who accept your specific plan.

    Quick Tip

If you are not sure of your exact plan name, check the front of your insurance card. The plan name is usually printed clearly alongside the insurance company logo.

    2

    Browse providers and check availability

    ~29s
Scroll through the list of matching providers. Each listing shows the doctor's name, specialty, practice name, distance from your location, star rating based on patient reviews, and the next available appointment time. Tap on any provider's name to read their full profile including their credentials, education, languages spoken, and all available appointment times for the next several weeks.

    Quick Tip

Filter the results by "Video visit" if you prefer not to travel to an office. Many providers on Zocdoc offer both in-person and virtual appointments, and you can book either type directly.

    3

    Book your appointment

    ~28s
Tap an available time slot that works for you. You will be asked to create a free Zocdoc account or log in if you already have one. Enter your name, date of birth, insurance details, and contact information. Review the appointment details and tap "Book Appointment." You will receive an immediate confirmation by email and text message.

    Warning

Zocdoc shows real-time availability, but occasionally a slot may be taken between when you viewed it and when you complete booking. If you get an error, try the next available time slot.

    4

Complete intake paperwork before you arrive

    ~19s
After booking, Zocdoc will send you a link to complete the doctor's intake forms digitally on your phone or computer before your appointment. This typically includes your health history, current medications, reason for the visit, and insurance information. Completing this in advance means less paperwork when you arrive and more time with the doctor.
    5

Leave a review after your visit

    ~18s
After your appointment, Zocdoc will send you a short survey asking you to rate your experience. Your review will be posted publicly for future patients to read. Taking two minutes to leave an honest review helps other people in your community find good doctors, and it also provides useful feedback to the practice.

Finding a doctor who is accepting new patients, takes your insurance, and has an appointment available soon can feel overwhelming. Zocdoc is a free service that makes this process much faster. You enter your insurance plan, your location, and the type of doctor you need, and Zocdoc shows you a list of available providers with their real-time appointment openings — so you can book directly without calling the office and waiting on hold.

Zocdoc works for primary care doctors, specialists (like cardiologists, dermatologists, orthopedic doctors, and eye doctors), dentists, and mental health providers. For each provider, you can see their photo, credentials, practice address, languages spoken, patient reviews from verified Zocdoc users, and their next available appointment slots broken out by office visit or video visit.

The reviews on Zocdoc are verified — only patients who actually saw the doctor through Zocdoc can leave a review. This makes them more reliable than anonymous online reviews, which can sometimes be inflated or hard to verify.

After you book through Zocdoc, the app sends you reminders before your appointment and lets you fill out intake paperwork digitally before you arrive, which saves time in the waiting room. Many practices connected to Zocdoc also give you the option to cancel or reschedule directly through the app.

Zocdoc is completely free for patients. Doctors pay to be listed. You can use Zocdoc at zocdoc.com on a computer or through the Zocdoc app on your phone.
