Pick your device
Take a screenshot
- 1Press the Side button + Volume Up button at the same time. Quick press, both buttons together.
- 2A flash + click sound = it worked.
- 3Thumbnail appears at the bottom-left for a few seconds — tap it to edit, share, or save.
Record the screen
- 1Settings → Control Center → tap "+" next to Screen Recording.
- 2Open Control Center (swipe down from top-right of any iPhone X+; up from bottom on older).
- 3Tap the white circle inside a circle. 3-second countdown.
- 4Stop by re-tapping it or by tapping the red bar at the top of the screen.
Where files save: Both screenshots and screen recordings save to Photos → Albums → Screenshots / Recents.
When to use this
Showing a tech buddy what is wrong
Screenshot the error message. Send it via text. Way faster than describing it on the phone.
Saving a confirmation page
Booking a flight, completing an order — screenshot the confirmation. Easier to find later than digging through email.
Recording a problem for support
Some bugs only appear when you do a specific thing. Record the screen showing it happen, send the video to support.
Demonstrating to a grandkid
Record yourself walking through how to do something. Send it to a grandchild who keeps forgetting.
Proof of something
A weird charge on a website, a misleading ad, a scam attempt — screenshot it before it disappears.
Editing screenshots
Most platforms let you crop and annotate immediately after capturing. Tap the thumbnail (iPhone, Android) or click the toast (Windows) to draw arrows, highlight, or blur sensitive info before sharing.
