How to Track Your Amazon Orders and Deliveries

Amazon makes it straightforward to see exactly where your package is, get delivery alerts, and find out what to do if something goes wrong.

    1

Track orders in the Amazon app or website

    ~35s
Open the Amazon app on your phone and tap the three-line menu (☰) → "Returns & Orders." You see a list of recent orders with their current status. Tap any order for details. For orders being shipped, tap "Track package" to see the estimated delivery date, shipping carrier, tracking number, and current location in the shipping process. On the website (amazon.com), click "Returns & Orders" in the top right.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Orders typically go through stages: "Preparing for shipment" → "Shipped" → "Out for delivery" → "Delivered." If it says "Delivered" but you can't find the package, check around your front door, porch, mailbox, and with neighbors.

    2

    Set up delivery notifications

    ~33s
Amazon sends email notifications at key shipping milestones — when your order ships and when it delivers. To get text (SMS) notifications too: go to amazon.com → AccountAccount SettingsCommunication preferences → enable "Shipping and delivery" alerts and add your phone number. You can also enable push notifications in the Amazon app: tap your profile picture → App SettingsNotifications → turn on shipping updates.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Amazon sends a photo of your package on your doorstep when delivered (in most areas). The delivery confirmation email or app notification includes this photo — useful if you can't find your package.

    3

Use Amazon Map Tracking for same-day and Prime deliveries

    ~20s
For eligible orders (usually Prime same-day or next-day deliveries), Amazon offers real-time map tracking. When your package is "Out for delivery," open the Amazon app → go to your order → "Track package" → tap "Track on map." A map shows the delivery driver's current location and estimated arrival time. This refreshes every few minutes.
    4

Report a missing or damaged package

    ~36s
If your order says "Delivered" but you don't see it: wait 24-48 hours (sometimes delivery scans are early). Then in the app: go to Returns & Orders → tap the order → "Problem with order" → "Package shows delivered but I can't find it." Amazon will typically offer a refund or replacement. For damaged items: go to the order → "Return or replace items" and select "Item arrived damaged." Amazon's return process is generally hassle-free.

    Warning

"Porch pirates" — thieves who steal packages from front doors — have become more common. For valuable deliveries, consider shipping to an Amazon Hub Locker (a secure pickup box at nearby stores) or requesting a signature for delivery.
