Go to pharmacy.amazon.com and sign in

    ~21s
Open a web browser and go to pharmacy.amazon.com. Sign in with your regular Amazon account. If you do not have an Amazon account, click "Create your Amazon account" and enter your name, email address, and a password. Your Amazon shopping account and pharmacy account are one and the same, so if you already shop on Amazon, you are already set up.
    2

Add your insurance and personal health information

    ~31s
Before transferring a prescription, click on "Account" in the top right and navigate to the pharmacy section. Add your health insurance information — your insurance ID number, group number, and the member name exactly as it appears on your insurance card. This allows Amazon Pharmacy to bill your insurance for covered medications. Also verify that your name, date of birth, and shipping address are correct.

    Quick Tip

Even if you have insurance, check the cash price and Prime discount before using insurance. For some generic medications, the discounted cash price is lower than your insurance copay.

    3

Transfer a prescription from your current pharmacy

    ~31s
On the Amazon Pharmacy homepage, click "Transfer a prescription." Enter the medication name, your current pharmacy's name, and the phone number of your current pharmacy. Amazon Pharmacy will contact your pharmacy to request the transfer. For most medications, this takes one business day. You will receive an email when the transfer is complete and your prescription is ready to be filled.

    Warning

Controlled substances — including certain sleep medications, anxiety medications, and pain medications — cannot be transferred to or filled through Amazon Pharmacy due to federal regulations. Continue filling these at your local pharmacy.

    4

Review pricing and place your order

    ~33s
Once the prescription is transferred, Amazon Pharmacy shows you the available pricing options: your insurance price, the standard cash price, and the Prime Rx member price. Select the option that costs least for you. Confirm your shipping address and click "Place Order." Prime members receive free two-day delivery. Standard free delivery takes five to seven business days. You will get email updates as your order is packed and shipped.

    Quick Tip

Amazon Pharmacy keeps a digital record of all your prescription history, which can be useful for tax records (prescriptions are a deductible medical expense) or when a new doctor asks what medications you take.

Amazon Pharmacy is a full-service, licensed online pharmacy that lets you fill prescriptions and have them delivered directly to your home. If you already use Amazon for shopping, adding prescription management to the same account is straightforward. Amazon Pharmacy is available in most U.S. states for most types of medications, with the notable exception of controlled substances.

One of the standout features of Amazon Pharmacy is its transparent pricing. When you enter a prescription, the site shows you the cash price, your insurance price if you have insurance on file, and a Prime discount if you are an Amazon Prime member. This transparency allows you to compare and choose the lowest cost option — something that is difficult to do at traditional pharmacies.

Amazon Prime members receive discounts of up to 80% on generic medications and up to 40% on brand-name drugs when paying cash (without insurance). For some common generics, this cash price can be lower than what you would pay using insurance — depending on your plan's copay structure.

Prescriptions are typically filled and shipped within one to two days, with free two-day delivery for Prime members. Standard shipping is also available at no charge, with delivery in five to seven business days.

To get started, you need an Amazon account (free), and your doctor must send your prescription electronically to Amazon Pharmacy, or you can transfer an existing prescription from another pharmacy. Amazon Pharmacy accepts most major insurance plans, though you will need to enter your insurance information during setup. The service is available at pharmacy.amazon.com.
