All the Amazon Prime Benefits You May Not Be Using

Most people use Amazon Prime just for free shipping — but the membership includes Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading, pharmacy discounts, and more.

    1

    Access Prime Video

    ~17s
Download the "Prime Video" app on your phone, tablet, or smart TV. Sign in with your Amazon account. Browse movies and TV shows — ones marked with "Prime" banner are included at no extra cost. Others may require purchase or rental. Prime Video is also available at primevideo.com in any browser.
    2

    Stream Music With Prime Music

    ~18s
Download the "Amazon Music" app. Sign in with your Amazon account. Tap the menu icon → select "Prime Music" to see content included with your membership. You can play any Prime Music playlist, album, or station at no extra charge. Shuffle mode is available; on-demand playback of specific songs works at this tier.
    3

    Borrow Books With Prime Reading

    ~18s
Open the Kindle app (or on a Kindle device) or go to amazon.com/kindleprimedeals. Browse Prime Reading titles — search for "Prime Reading" on Amazon. Tap "Borrow for free" on any eligible title. You can have up to 10 Prime Reading books borrowed at one time. Return them when done and borrow new ones.
    4

Back Up Photos With Amazon Photos

    ~25s
Download the "Amazon Photos" app. Sign in with your Amazon account. The app asks to back up your photos — allow it. Amazon Photos stores unlimited full-resolution photos (not just thumbnails) for free with Prime. This is a genuine backup separate from your phone's storage. Also available at photos.amazon.com.

    Quick Tip

Amazon Photos counts as a free secondary backup in addition to iCloud or Google Photos — useful as a second safety net for irreplaceable photos.

    5

    Share Benefits With Family

    ~26s
Go to amazon.com/myh/manage — "Amazon Household." Add a second adult (they get full Prime benefits) and up to 4 children (they get a youth profile with curated content). Both adults in the household share Prime benefits at no additional cost. Digital content (some Kindle books, Prime Video, etc.) can also be shared.

    Warning

The household feature requires both adults to agree to share payment methods. Any Amazon purchases by the added adult go to the shared payment method if they choose.

Amazon Prime costs $139 per year ($14.99/month), and most members use it primarily for free two-day shipping. But the membership includes a long list of other benefits that many Prime members don't know about — some worth significant money on their own.

Here's what's included: Prime Video (streaming movies and TV shows comparable in breadth to Netflix, including Amazon Original series), Prime Music (streaming music with a catalog of 100 million songs), Prime Reading (free access to rotating selection of Kindle books and magazines), Amazon Photos (unlimited photo storage and 5GB video storage, separate from iCloud or Google Photos), Prime Gaming (free games and in-game content each month), Amazon Fresh delivery (free grocery delivery in some areas), prescription discounts through Amazon Pharmacy, and Whole Foods discounts (extra 10% off sale items).

Many of these can replace other paid services. If you're paying separately for music streaming, Amazon Prime Music is included. If you store photos elsewhere for a fee, Amazon Photos includes unlimited photo backup. Prime Reading reduces the need to purchase Kindle books.

Amazon Family members can be added to most benefits: household sharing lets two adults and four children share most Prime benefits. This makes the per-person cost much more reasonable for families.

A few benefits have their own apps: Prime Video has its own app (Prime Video), Prime Music and Amazon Music share the Amazon Music app, Amazon Photos has its own app. You access most of them through the respective apps on your phone or smart TV, not through the main Amazon Shopping app.
