Visit Bandcamp and browse for free

    ~32s
Go to bandcamp.com in your web browser on any device — computer, phone, or tablet. No account is needed to browse. Use the search bar at the top to search for a specific artist or album, or click "Music" in the top menu and then choose a genre to explore. Click any album cover to open its page and play the music using the built-in player. Most albums can be played in full before you decide to buy.

    Quick Tip

The Bandcamp Daily blog at daily.bandcamp.com features well-written recommendations across genres and is a great starting point for discovering new music.

    2

    Create a free account

    ~21s
Click "Sign Up" in the top right corner and enter your email address and a password. Bandcamp will send a confirmation email — click the link in that email to verify your account. Once signed in, you can follow artists, save music to your wishlist, and access everything you have purchased in one place. Your purchase history is permanently stored in your account.
    3

    Buy an album or song

    ~36s
On any artist or album page, you will see a price listed — often "name your price" (meaning you can pay any amount, including the minimum shown) or a fixed price. Click "Buy Digital Album" and enter the amount you want to pay if it is flexible. Then enter your payment information (credit card or PayPal). Bandcamp does not store your card details for future purchases. You enter payment information each time, which some people prefer for privacy.

    Quick Tip

"Name your price" does not mean you must pay extra. Pay the minimum if your budget is tight — the artist still receives a lot more than they would from a streaming service.

    4

    Download your music after purchase

    ~34s
After completing a purchase, Bandcamp shows a download page. Choose your preferred format — MP3 (320kbps) works on any device and is a good default choice. FLAC is a higher-quality format for audiophiles who want the best possible sound. Click Download and save the files to your computer. You can also access past purchases any time by signing in and going to your "Collection" page.

    Warning

Save your downloaded music files to a backup location such as an external hard drive or cloud storage. If something happens to your computer, your Bandcamp account lets you re-download purchases at any time, but having a local backup is good practice.

Follow artists and shop on Bandcamp Friday

    ~21s
On any artist page, click "Follow" to receive email updates when they release new music or merchandise. To find out when the next Bandcamp Friday is scheduled, check the Bandcamp website or their social media pages. On those days, consider making purchases you have been planning — every dollar goes entirely to the artist on Bandcamp Fridays, making your support go further.

Bandcamp is a music platform designed around one idea: artists keep more of the money. When you buy an album or song on Bandcamp, the artist usually receives 80 to 85 percent of the sale price. This is dramatically more than what artists earn from streaming services, where a million plays might pay less than a few thousand dollars. Buying on Bandcamp is one of the most direct ways to financially support a musician you love.

The platform hosts music from hundreds of thousands of independent artists across virtually every genre imaginable — indie rock, jazz, electronic, folk, classical, hip-hop, world music, and everything in between. You can browse by genre, search for specific artists, or follow recommendations from Bandcamp's editorial team, who write about new releases in the Bandcamp Daily blog.

Before buying anything, you can listen to most albums in full using the built-in player — no account required. If you like what you hear, you purchase a digital download in high-quality formats like MP3, FLAC, or WAV. You then own those files and can download them as many times as you need, without any copy protection or restrictions. Many artists also sell physical merchandise through Bandcamp, including vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes, and T-shirts.

Creating a free Bandcamp account lets you follow artists, receive email updates when they release new music, and access a library of everything you have purchased. When you follow a fan on Bandcamp, you can also see what they are buying and listening to, which is a good way to discover new artists.

Bandcamp Fridays are a popular recurring event where Bandcamp temporarily waives its fee, meaning 100 percent of your purchase price goes to the artist. These happen on the first Friday of select months and are announced on the Bandcamp website and social media accounts.

If you value supporting musicians directly and owning your music rather than renting it through a subscription, Bandcamp is one of the best places to spend your music budget.
