    1

Download the Blink app and create an account

    ~25s
Search for "Blink Home Monitor" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and install the free app. Open it and tap "Create Account." Enter your email address and create a password, then verify your email by clicking the link Blink sends you. You will also be asked to enter a phone number for two-step verification — this adds a layer of security so only you can log into your cameras.
    2

    Set up the Sync Module

    ~36s
Plug the Blink Sync Module into a wall outlet near your router. In the Blink app, tap the "+" button to add a new device and select "Sync Module." The app will display a QR code — hold your phone's camera up to the QR code on the Sync Module's label to scan it. Follow the prompts to connect the Sync Module to your home Wi-Fi by entering your Wi-Fi password. The Sync Module's LED will turn solid blue when it is connected.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Place the Sync Module in the same room as your router during setup — you can move it to a more central location afterward if needed.

    3

    Add your Blink camera

    ~24s
In the app, tap "+" again and select your specific camera model (for example, "Blink Outdoor" or "Blink Indoor"). The app will ask you to scan the QR code on the back of the camera. Insert the AA lithium batteries included in the box, then follow the app's instructions to sync the camera to the Sync Module. The camera's LED will flash and then go solid green to confirm the pairing worked.
    4

Position the camera for best coverage

    ~37s
Place indoor cameras on a shelf or mount them to a wall 7 to 8 feet high, angled slightly downward so you can see faces. For outdoor cameras, mount them under an eave or overhang to protect from direct rain on the lens, and angle them so approaching visitors move across the frame rather than walking straight at the camera. Avoid pointing the camera at bright light sources, which can make people appear as dark silhouettes.

    Warning

If you are mounting an outdoor camera in very cold climates (below -4°F or -20°C), standard alkaline batteries will fail quickly in the cold. Blink recommends lithium AA batteries specifically — they are printed as "Lithium" on the package.

    5

View live video and motion clips

    ~39s
In the Blink app, tap on your camera's thumbnail to see a live view. Motion clips are recorded automatically when movement is detected and appear in the "Clip Roll" section of the app. Each clip is typically 5 to 60 seconds long, depending on how long motion is detected. Tap any clip to play it back. You can also adjust how long clips can be and set a "Retrigger Time" — the number of seconds the camera waits after one clip ends before it starts recording again.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Start with a Retrigger Time of 10 seconds. If you are getting too many short, repetitive clips, raise it to 30 seconds to reduce the number of recordings and save battery life.

Blink is Amazon's budget-friendly line of wireless security cameras. They run on two AA lithium batteries that can last up to two years, so there are no cables to run and no outlet required near your camera. Blink makes cameras for both indoor and outdoor use — the outdoor models are weather-resistant and can handle rain and temperature changes.

Blink cameras connect to a small device called the Sync Module, which plugs into a standard outlet and acts as the bridge between your cameras and your home Wi-Fi. One Sync Module supports up to ten cameras. Some newer Blink devices have Wi-Fi built in and do not need a Sync Module — check your box.

You manage everything through the free Blink app on your phone. When motion is detected, the camera records a short clip and sends a notification to your phone within a few seconds. By default, clips are stored in the Blink cloud for free for 60 days — but this free storage is only available with the Blink Subscription Plan ($3/month per camera or $10/month for unlimited cameras). Without a subscription, you can still save clips locally using a USB flash drive plugged into the Sync Module.

Blink cameras are a great starting point for home monitoring because they are affordable, do not require professional installation, and last a long time on battery power. This guide walks you through the entire setup from downloading the app to viewing your first motion clip.
