How to Block Unwanted Calls and Texts

Unwanted calls and spam texts are frustrating and sometimes dangerous. Both iPhone and Android have built-in tools to block specific numbers and filter spam.

To block a specific number on iPhone: open the Phone app → Recents → find the number → tap the (i) icon → scroll down → "Block this Caller." For texts: open the message → tap the contact/number at the top → "Block this Caller." Blocked contacts cannot call, text, or FaceTime you.

To block on Android: open the Phone app → Recents → long-press the number → "Block" or "Block and report spam." For texts: open the message → tap the three dots → "Block" or "Report spam."

To silence all unknown callers on iPhone: Settings → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers. Calls from numbers not in your contacts go to voicemail. On Android: Phone app → Settings → "Spam and Call Screen" → enable spam filtering.

For spam texts on iPhone: Settings → Messages → "Filter Unknown Senders" moves texts from unknown numbers to a separate list. On Android: Messages → Settings → Spam Protection → turn it on.
