When you talk to Alexa, Amazon records what you say. You can manage and delete these recordings and control data usage.
Open the Alexa app → More → Settings → Alexa Privacy → Review Voice History. Here you can listen to and delete recordings individually, by date range, or all at once. In "Manage Your Alexa Data," set automatic deletion after 3 or 18 months, or choose "Do not save recordings."
Opt out of human review by toggling off "Help Improve Alexa" and "Use of Messages to Improve Transcriptions" in Manage Your Alexa Data.
Every Echo has a microphone mute button (red, with a microphone icon). When muted, the device physically disconnects the microphone — a red light confirms it is muted. Use this during private conversations or when sleeping.
Review Alexa skills permissions under More → Skills & Games → Your Skills. Tap any skill to manage its access to your location, address, or contacts. Check your privacy settings at least once a year as Amazon occasionally adds new data features.
