    How to Encrypt Files and Folders on Windows

    Use BitLocker (Pro/Enterprise)

    Encrypt with EFS

    Right-click a file/folder → PropertiesAdvancedCheck "Encrypt contents to secure data."

    Use 7-Zip for file encryption

    Download 7-Zip (free). Right-click files → 7-ZipAdd to Archive. Set a password with AES-256 encryption.

    Back up your encryption key

    When prompted, save your BitLocker recovery key to your Microsoft account, USB drive, or printed copy.

    Warning

    If you lose your BitLocker recovery key, your data is permanently inaccessible. Save it in at least two safe places.
