Quick Tip: Zoom in to your local lake or river and look at recent catches from the past week or two. Recent activity in a specific area tells you more than older historical data, especially as seasons and conditions change.

Quick Tip: Even if you are practicing catch-and-release and cannot weigh the fish accurately, you can estimate and the log is still valuable. An approximate weight is more useful than no record at all.

Fishbrain is one of the most widely used fishing apps in the United States, with more than 13 million users logging catches, sharing spots, and discussing fishing conditions. It functions as both a personal fishing journal and a social network for anglers of all experience levels — from complete beginners taking their first fishing trip to experienced anglers targeting specific trophy species.
The core of Fishbrain is the catch log. Every time you catch a fish, you can record the species, size, weight, the lure or bait you used, the weather conditions, and your location on a map. Over time, this personal log becomes a valuable record of what works, where, and when. You can look back at previous seasons and see that you consistently catch bass in a certain cove in early June, for example, or that a specific lure only works for you in overcast conditions.
Beyond personal logging, Fishbrain shows you an activity feed of catches from other anglers near you. If someone caught a large walleye at a lake 10 miles from your house yesterday using a chartreuse jig in 12 feet of water, you can see that information (the spot is shown about, not precisely, unless the user chose to share the exact location). This community intelligence helps you find productive spots and understand current conditions.
Fishbrain is free with optional premium features available through a subscription called Fishbrain Pro, which adds detailed fishing forecasts, premium maps, and full access to the catches database with precise spot locations. The free version is enough for most casual anglers.
