Start lighter than you think you need to on your first session. It is always safer to add weight next time than to strain a muscle on your very first workout.

Walking into a gym without a plan can feel paralyzing. Which machines do you use? How many sets? How heavy? Fitbod is an app that answers all of those questions for you by building a personalized workout each time you open it.
When you first set up Fitbod, you tell it your fitness goals (build muscle, lose weight, improve endurance, or general fitness), your available equipment (full gym, dumbbells at home, no equipment), and your experience level. The app then generates a workout tailored specifically to those inputs.
What makes Fitbod smarter than a static workout plan is that it tracks what muscles you've worked and how hard you pushed them. The next time you open the app, it intentionally gives fresh muscles more work while letting recently worked muscles recover. This rotation is based on exercise science principles around muscle recovery, and it's one of the best features for preventing the plateau that happens when you do the same routine every week.
Each exercise in your workout comes with animated demonstration videos showing proper form. You can swap out any exercise you don't like or can't do, and the app will substitute something that works the same muscle group with your available equipment.
Fitbod offers a free trial that lets you complete three workouts before requiring a subscription. After the trial, the subscription costs around $12.99 per month or $79.99 per year. For frequent gym-goers, the annual plan pays for itself quickly compared to working with a personal trainer.
The app also integrates with Apple Health and Google Fit, so your workouts automatically appear in your broader health tracking. You can log cardio sessions too, and over time Fitbod's dashboard shows you strength gains by muscle group — a motivating record of the real progress you're making.
