    How to Set Up and Use a Fitness Tracker

    Get started with your Fitbit, Apple Watch, or other fitness tracker. Track steps, heart rate, and sleep in minutes.

    Charge your tracker

    Before you start, charge your tracker fully. Most trackers come with a special charging cable. Plug it into a USB port or wall adapter and attach the tracker. A full charge usually takes 1-2 hours.

    Download the companion app

    Search the App Store or Google Play for the app that matches your tracker: "Fitbit" for Fitbit devices, "Watch" for Apple Watch (already on iPhone), "Samsung Health" for Samsung Galaxy Watch, or "Garmin Connect" for Garmin.

    Pair with your phone

    Open the app, tap "Set Up a Device," and follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Hold your tracker near your phone when prompted. The app will find your device and walk you through the connection.

    The app will ask you to set goals for steps, active minutes, and sleep. Start with realistic goals: 5,000 steps per day is a great starting point (you can increase it later). Set a sleep goal of 7-8 hours.

    Read your daily stats

    Open the app each morning to see yesterday's results. Most apps show: total steps, distance walked, calories burned, heart rate throughout the day, and sleep duration and quality. Look for trends over weeks, not individual days.
