    1

Download Garmin Connect and create your account

    ~17s
Open the App Store or Google Play and search for "Garmin Connect." Download the free app and open it. Tap "Create Account" and enter your email address, a password, and your date of birth and height and weight (used for calorie estimates). Tap "Create Account" to finish.
    2

    Pair your Garmin device

    ~22s
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. In Garmin Connect, tap the menu icon (three lines, top left), then "Garmin Devices," then "Add Device." Hold your Garmin watch or tracker close to your phone and follow the pairing instructions on screen. The app will confirm when the connection is successful.

    Quick Tip

Keep your phone and Garmin device within a foot of each other during pairing for the smoothest experience.

    3

    Explore your dashboard

    ~15s
After pairing, the app automatically syncs your activity data. The main dashboard shows your steps, heart rate, stress level, sleep, and calories for today. Tap any category for a detailed breakdown. Swipe left or right to see your stats for previous days.
    4

    Set your daily goals

    ~18s
Tap the menu icon, then "Settings," then "Activity & Health Settings." Here you can set your daily step goal, active minutes goal, and floor goal. Your Garmin device will track progress toward these goals throughout the day and can vibrate to remind you to move if you have been sitting too long.
    5

    Review your sleep data

    ~26s
Tap the Sleep section on your dashboard to see how your night broke down into light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake periods. The app assigns a Sleep Score each night. Review this over several weeks to spot patterns. If you consistently get poor sleep scores, share this data with your doctor.

    Warning

Garmin's sleep data is estimated by the device's sensors and is not medically precise. Do not use it to diagnose a sleep disorder — consult a doctor for that.

    6

Sync with Apple Health or Google Fit

    ~15s
On iPhone, go to Garmin Connect menu, then Settings, then Partner Apps, and enable Apple Health. On Android, enable Google Fit similarly. Once connected, your Garmin step and heart rate data will appear in Apple Health or Google Fit automatically.

Garmin Connect is the free companion app for Garmin fitness watches and activity trackers. It takes the data your device collects throughout the day — steps, heart rate, sleep, calories burned, stress levels, and more — and displays it in clear, readable charts and summaries on your phone.

To get started, download the Garmin Connect app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Open the app and create a free Garmin account using your email address. Once your account is set up, the app will walk you through pairing your Garmin device via Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on your phone, hold your Garmin device close, and follow the on-screen instructions. The pairing process takes about two to three minutes.

After pairing, the app dashboard shows a summary of your day at a glance: steps taken versus your daily goal, floors climbed, active minutes, estimated calories burned, current heart rate, and last night's sleep score. Scroll down to see each category in more detail.

The sleep tracking section breaks your night into light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake periods. Over time, you can spot patterns — such as consistently waking up during a certain hour — that might be worth discussing with your doctor.

Heart rate data is particularly valuable. Garmin Connect graphs your resting heart rate over weeks and months. A gradually decreasing resting heart rate often indicates improving cardiovascular fitness. The app also records heart rate variability, which some people share with their healthcare provider.

You can set daily step goals, activity goals, and intensity minute targets through the app. Garmin will send reminders to your wrist to move if you have been sitting still for too long.

The Challenges section lets you compete in step challenges with friends who also have Garmin devices — a fun way to stay motivated.

Garmin Connect can sync data to Apple Health (iPhone) or Google Fit (Android), which means other apps that read from those services will also receive your Garmin data.

Keep in mind that Garmin devices and the Garmin Connect app are wellness tools, not medical devices. They are not designed to diagnose, treat, or monitor medical conditions. For any health concerns, consult a licensed healthcare provider.
