Garmin Connect is the free companion app for Garmin fitness watches and activity trackers. It takes the data your device collects throughout the day — steps, heart rate, sleep, calories burned, stress levels, and more — and displays it in clear, readable charts and summaries on your phone.
To get started, download the Garmin Connect app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Open the app and create a free Garmin account using your email address. Once your account is set up, the app will walk you through pairing your Garmin device via Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on your phone, hold your Garmin device close, and follow the on-screen instructions. The pairing process takes about two to three minutes.
After pairing, the app dashboard shows a summary of your day at a glance: steps taken versus your daily goal, floors climbed, active minutes, estimated calories burned, current heart rate, and last night's sleep score. Scroll down to see each category in more detail.
The sleep tracking section breaks your night into light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake periods. Over time, you can spot patterns — such as consistently waking up during a certain hour — that might be worth discussing with your doctor.
Heart rate data is particularly valuable. Garmin Connect graphs your resting heart rate over weeks and months. A gradually decreasing resting heart rate often indicates improving cardiovascular fitness. The app also records heart rate variability, which some people share with their healthcare provider.
You can set daily step goals, activity goals, and intensity minute targets through the app. Garmin will send reminders to your wrist to move if you have been sitting still for too long.
The Challenges section lets you compete in step challenges with friends who also have Garmin devices — a fun way to stay motivated.
Garmin Connect can sync data to Apple Health (iPhone) or Google Fit (Android), which means other apps that read from those services will also receive your Garmin data.
Keep in mind that Garmin devices and the Garmin Connect app are wellness tools, not medical devices. They are not designed to diagnose, treat, or monitor medical conditions. For any health concerns, consult a licensed healthcare provider.
