How to Use Google News to Follow Topics You Care About

Google News is a free app that brings together headlines and stories from thousands of sources and personalizes them to your interests.

    1

    Get Google News

    ~15s
Google News is pre-installed on many Android phones. If not, search "Google News" in the Google Play Store or App Store and install it free. Sign in with your Google account to personalize your feed.
    2

    Explore your personalized feed

    ~22s
The main "For you" tab shows a personalized mix of top stories and stories Google thinks you'll find interesting based on your Google activity. Swipe down to refresh. Tap any headline to read the full article in a clean reading view.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: At the bottom of each article, Google News suggests related stories and "More like this" — good for going deeper on topics you care about.

    3

    Follow specific topics and sources

    ~15s
Tap the "Following" tab. Tap "+" to add topics (type anything: "arthritis," "Social Security," "vegetable gardening," "local weather"), specific news sources (like "NPR," "The New York Times," "your local paper"), or locations (type your city or state for local news).
    4

    Adjust your feed over time

    ~16s
When you see an article you don't like, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) next to it and choose "Hide stories from [source]" or "Not interested in [topic]." Google News learns from these signals and adjusts your feed. The more you interact, the more accurate it gets.
    5

    Use the Full Coverage feature

    ~15s
Tap any story and scroll down to see "Full Coverage." This shows how different news organizations are reporting the same story — useful for getting multiple perspectives on an important event rather than just one source's take.
