Forgetting a dose of medication is something that happens to almost everyone, especially when you take more than one pill a day or your routine changes. The good news is that your iPhone has a built-in feature in the Health app that can remind you exactly when to take each medication. It is free, private, and once you set it up, it runs on its own.
The Medications feature lives inside the Health app, which comes installed on every iPhone. Look for the white icon with a pink heart on it. If you have an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 17 or later, you have this feature. You can add the name of each medication, the dose, the shape and color of the pill, and the times you take it. When the time arrives, your iPhone will buzz and show a reminder on the screen.
You can also tell the app whether you took your dose by tapping "Logged" or "Skipped." Over time this builds a record you can share with your doctor or family. If you have an Apple Watch, the reminder will also appear on your wrist, which is helpful if your phone is in another room.
One of the best parts of this feature is the drug interaction warnings. When you add a new medication, the Health app checks against the others on your list and warns you if any of them might interact with each other or with alcohol. This is not a replacement for your pharmacist. But it is a helpful second set of eyes.
If you take medications at unusual times, like every other day or once a week, the app handles those schedules too. You can add vitamins and supplements alongside prescriptions so everything lives in one place. Setting this up takes about five minutes and could prevent a missed dose that matters.
